Two select fun pieces I helped create for the show were a special world-building piece for the end of pre-show, in which we brought about the end of times, as we know it, to the joyful jams of Taylor Swift’s hit ‘Shake it Off.’ Where the catastrophe of show becomes a part of the world, destroying various pieces of electrical equipment, and being followed by am ominous rumbling and wind passing over, as we set the scene for act 1.
The other piece I created with Krystal is the act 2 musical mashup. A collection and recounting of songs familiar to the cast, crew, and designers which reflects what we communally can remember with just our poor memory. This is a final ‘render’ of what the cast was to learn for their performance, with our assistance on how to put the melodies together.
Another part of the production I was able to lead was the creation of the Foley performances we wanted. These included sticks breaking, a bathtub, and thunder. Our ideal was to create these environmental noises live; however, due to limitations, we decided to find other solutions to some. The forest noise was created and recorded live, the bathtub was condensed to a small Foley device made of two buckets that re-created the sound of a bathtub filling and splashing water. The thunder was able to be created live through a classic over-sized metal sheet being shaken and hit.
